Teen Therapy in Studio City

Teen Therapy in Studio City with Julie Klamon, LMFT

The teenager you knew can seem to change overnight. The kid who told you everything now closes the door. Moods swing hard. School, friendships, and a phone that never stops buzzing all press in at once. As a parent, you can feel shut out and worried at the same time, unsure whether what you are seeing is normal teenage stuff or a sign that something is wrong. Teen therapy gives your adolescent a private place to sort through it with someone who is not their parent, their teacher, or their friend.

Over more than 20 years, I have worked with teenagers who were anxious, depressed, angry, withdrawn, struggling at school, or quietly falling apart while keeping up appearances. What they share is a need for someone in their corner who will listen without an agenda. That is what I offer, and it is what builds the trust real change depends on.

My office is in Agoura Hills, about 35 minutes from Studio City on the 101 West. I also offer virtual sessions across California, which works well for a lot of teens and fits around busy school and family schedules.

How to Tell If Your Teen Could Use Support

Some moodiness is part of being a teenager. The signs worth paying attention to are the ones that stick around: ongoing sadness, anxiety, or anger, pulling away from family and friends, a real drop in grades or motivation, changes in sleep or appetite, or risky behavior. A frightening event or a big change, like a divorce or a move, often surfaces weeks later in a teen's mood or behavior. If your gut says something has shifted, that instinct is worth trusting. You do not need a crisis to justify reaching out.

Teen Therapy for the Studio City Community

Teenagers in Studio City grow up in a place shaped by the entertainment industry, and that leaves a mark even on kids who never set foot on a set. Some have a parent who is well known, which means a level of public attention most teens never deal with and a pressure to manage how the family looks. Some are pursuing acting or music themselves and are learning to handle rejection before they have learned to drive. Even teens with no industry tie absorb the local emphasis on image, success, and being seen.

School adds its own weight. Many local teens attend Carpenter Community Charter or private schools like Harvard-Westlake and Campbell Hall, places with high academic expectations and competitive social worlds. Layer social media on top, where everyone seems to be doing better and having more fun, and the comparison never stops. The teens I see are often capable and accomplished and also anxious, exhausted, or unsure who they are underneath all the performing. Therapy is where they get to drop the act and figure that out.

My Approach to Teen Therapy

Teenagers can spot insincerity from across the room. I do not use scripts, I do not talk down to them, and I do not pretend to have all the answers. What I do is show up consistently, ask honest questions, and help them work out what they actually think and feel about what is weighing on them. Over time that builds self awareness, confidence, and the ability to handle hard situations without shutting down or blowing up. You can read more about my general approach on my teen therapy page.

Parents are part of the process, but the sessions belong to your teen. I will not repeat the details of our conversations unless there is a safety concern. What I will do is check in with you, offer guidance on supporting your teen at home, and flag anything that needs your direct attention. That balance between your teen's privacy and your need to stay informed is something I take seriously, because it is what lets a teenager be honest in the room.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teen Therapy in Studio City

If your teen is dealing with emotional or behavioral challenges that are affecting daily life, therapy can help. Signs to watch for include ongoing sadness, anxiety, or anger, trouble in relationships with family or friends, a noticeable change in grades or sleep, or risky behavior. If your teen has been through a frightening event or a big transition, therapy gives them support and coping skills to get through it.

Your involvement matters, and how much you are in the room depends on your teen's age, maturity, and what we are working on. I meet with parents periodically to share progress and give you guidance for home. At the same time, I protect your teen's privacy so they have a confidential space to be honest, which is what makes the work effective.

Yes. Many of the teens I see from Studio City attend academically demanding schools and feel constant pressure to perform. Therapy gives them a place where no one is grading them, helps them manage anxiety and perfectionism, and supports them in building a sense of worth that is not tied to grades or college admissions.

Yes. Some of my Studio City teen clients have a parent in the public eye, and some are pursuing acting or music themselves. The pressure to perform, to look a certain way, and to handle rejection or attention at a young age takes a real toll. I help teens separate their worth from external validation and build an identity that feels solid on its own.
