Sexual Abuse Therapy in Porter Ranch

Sexual Abuse Therapy in Porter Ranch with Julie Klamon, LMFT

Julie Klamon LMFT, sexual abuse therapist serving Porter Ranch

Surviving sexual abuse can leave a person feeling unsafe in their own body and unsure who to trust. The effects can surface days after an assault or years after childhood abuse, and they are no less real for having stayed hidden. If you are carrying this, whether it happened recently or long ago, please know that what you are feeling makes sense, and that healing is possible with the right support.

I have more than 20 years of experience helping children, teens, and adults recover from sexual abuse. Before opening my practice, I spent over a decade at one of Los Angeles's leading agencies, focused on children and teens who had experienced sexual abuse and trauma. During that time I became a certified UCLA Rape Treatment Center Sexual Assault Counselor, with extensive experience supporting survivors at the UCLA Rape Treatment Center. My commitment is to give every client a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental place to heal.

My office is in Agoura Hills, about 35 to 40 minutes from Porter Ranch by way of the 118 and the 101. In-person sessions are available there, and virtual sessions are also available across California. We can decide together which setting feels safest for you.

How Sexual Abuse Can Affect Survivors

Woman reflecting on progress made in sexual abuse therapy near Porter Ranch

Sexual abuse can affect every part of a person's life. Survivors often live with nightmares, flashbacks or intrusive memories, trouble sleeping, changes in appetite, fearfulness, difficulty trusting others, changes in sexual behavior, trouble concentrating, and a heavy sense of depression or self-blame. It can strain relationships and make work or school feel impossible. None of these reactions mean you are broken. They are the ways the mind and body try to cope with something that should never have happened, and they can ease with treatment.

I offer both individual therapy, a one-on-one space to process what happened and build coping strategies, and family therapy, which helps families heal together when abuse has affected more than one person. The right combination depends on you and what you need.

Sexual Abuse Therapy for the Porter Ranch Community

Woman finding healing through sexual abuse therapy near Porter Ranch

Porter Ranch is a connected, family-focused community, and that closeness can make it harder to come forward. Survivors and parents sometimes worry about privacy, about who might find out, about being seen walking into a therapist's office nearby. My practice in Agoura Hills sits outside the immediate Porter Ranch area, which gives families a measure of distance and discretion, and virtual sessions add another private option for those who want it.

For parents, this is often the hardest thing they will ever face. You may be frightened, angry, and unsure how to help your child without making it worse. You are not alone, and you do not have to have the right words. I help children and teens process what happened in age-appropriate ways and guide parents on how to support their child through recovery.

How I Approach Sexual Abuse Therapy

The work always moves at your pace, never mine. We begin by establishing safety and stability before processing anything painful, and you stay in control of what you share and when. Over time, therapy can bring relief from symptoms like flashbacks and difficulty trusting, help rebuild relationships strained by the abuse, and restore the self-worth that abuse so often damages. You can read more about my general approach on my sexual abuse therapy page and my related trauma therapy page.

My goal is for you to move forward with a renewed sense of safety, resilience, and ownership over your own life. That is achievable, and you do not have to do it alone.

Yes. I have spent much of my career supporting children and adolescents recovering from sexual trauma using age-appropriate approaches, alongside adult survivors. I also guide parents on how to support their child at home.

Yes. What you share in session is confidential, within the limits required by law. For families in a connected community like Porter Ranch, privacy matters, and my office in Agoura Hills offers discretion away from your immediate neighborhood. A private, safe setting is part of what makes this work possible, and I take that seriously.

Yes. Many survivors carry the effects of abuse for years or decades before they feel ready to address it, and that is completely understandable. The passage of time does not close the door on healing. Therapy can help you process old experiences and reclaim a sense of safety and self-worth whenever you decide the time is right.
